5 Unique Fireplace Design Ideas

Having a fireplace is, indeed, a luxury, but it is not often that hard to acquire. In fact, having a fireplace can actually be a good investment. The hard part comes when you have to find a way to style and decorate your fireplace. When it comes down to it, fireplace decorating seems easy, but there are a lot of factors to consider. For instance, what style is your home? You probably won’t want to have certain materials used in your fireplace design if you live in a certain style of home. Moreover, you want to think of size and safety. Here are five unique fireplace design ideas.

  1. A standalone fireplace. Stand-alone fireplaces are basically fireplaces that aren’t attached to the wall and the chimney is often a pipe that leads out of the roof of your home. In the old days, iron stand-alones were quite popular. Today, you can purchase a stand-alone fireplace and install it in your living room. Of course, you will need to build a space for the chimney, but it is often much more affordable than building a fireplace in your wall, which requires heavy construction.
  2. A smokeless, chimney-less fireplace. If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of building a chimney and if you don’t want to deal with the messy clean up, you could go with a smokeless, chimney-less fireplace. These fireplaces are unique because they use certain flammable liquids to ignite. Also the materials that catch on fire don’t produce any smoke. These fireplaces are excellent for individuals who want the luxe look of a fireplace, but don’t want to pay a fortune and don’t want to deal with the expensive upkeep.
  3. A stone fireplace. Another option is to go with a stone fireplace, which is typically installed on a pre-existing fireplace. What you will need to do is place stones or marble around the frame. This can really breathe new life into an old fireplace that is dated and old-fashioned. If you don’t have the budget for real stone, you could go for faux stone, which can be sourced from a company like Buy Faux Stone. When it comes down to it, no one will be able to tell the difference.
  4. A double-sided fireplace. If you want to go with something rare and unique, you could go for a double-sided fireplace. These fireplaces usually require some kind of partition wall – perhaps between a living room and a dining room. You are basically turning the wall into a fireplace that can be accessed and viewed on both sides. These fireplaces are excellent, because they produce a lot of heat.
  5. A large-mouth fireplace. On top of everything, you may want to expand your fireplace. If you have a small fireplace, but lots of room, your wall may look a little strange. If you have the room, why not make your fireplace really dominate the wall space. Not only will this have a strong visual impact in your home – it will also provide a lot of heat, which is great during the colder months.
