Natural Ways to Kill and Eliminate Household Mold

No one likes having mold in their house, if for no other reason than it looks unsightly. Oh, and it also tends to come with a bit of a musty odor too. But did you know that aside from those two things, if mold is left untreated, after a period of time, it can also lead to health problems including nausea, vomiting and respiratory problems? Not to mention skin rashes too.

That’s why, if you happen to notice some mold inside of your house, it’s important to do all that you can to remove it just as soon as possible. And while you could use solutions like bleach or ammonia, being that they tend to come with a lot of chemicals and fumes, we wanted to provide you with a list of five natural ways to kill and eliminate mold. Check these out below:

Tea tree oil. Something that is a powerful mold remover (and antiseptic) is tea tree oil. Although it’s not necessarily the cheapest solution, it is extremely effective, even when it comes to getting rid of black mold. You can find small bottles of them at your local drugstore, although it’s important to make sure that it says on the packaging that it’s made from the Australian tree Melaleuca. That way you can be sure the oil is at its most potent.

Vinegar. A remedy that is far less expensive, but works just as good is white-distilled vinegar. What makes it an enemy for mold is the acidic properties that it has. However, do make sure that you dilute it, just a bit, with water. That will help to somewhat remove the unpleasant smell that it tends to have. Also, if you want to make your vinegar solution even more powerful, you can add a bit of borax to it as well.

Baking soda. For less than $1 at your local grocery store, you can purchase a box of baking soda and know that it too will get rid of the mold spores that may be in your kitchen, bathroom or basement. Usually, people who opt for this will make it into a paste, apply it to the moldy areas, let it sit for a few minutes and then remove it with a damp cloth.

Hydrogen peroxide. If you were to ask a company like Advance Mold Remediation about something else that you can do to naturally treat mold and moisture , something that they might suggest is that you try a bit of hydrogen peroxide. Not only is it also very inexpensive, but it’s non-toxic and leaves absolutely no fumes behind. And as an added bonus, it can actually remove mold spores from clothing as well; something that bleach and ammonia are not able to do.

Grapefruit seed extract. One more thing that you might want to consider is grapefruit seed extract. One of the reasons why a lot of people enjoy this remedy is because not only does it remove mold, but it also disinfects and deodorizes too. It’s a proven way to get rid of mold while leaving your house smelling nice and fresh in the process.
